Quant internships
Quant internships fall into three families: quantitative research (finding and testing signals, modelling prices), quantitative trading (running and adjusting systematic strategies) and quant development (writing the pricing and risk libraries). Banks often call them strats; hedge funds and trading firms call them quant research or quant trading.
Hiring runs on technical tests: probability, statistics, programming in Python or C++, sometimes market-making games. Trading firms hire master's and PhD students all year round, for summer or shorter internships.

Projects they can check: a model tested out of sample, published code, a data science competition, a thesis. Your letter should name the exact methods from the posting that you have really used, and nothing else.
